Ashes, Ashes, we all fall down...

"Ashes, ashes we all fall down" that was Victor's saying all week long. I tried to explain to him the reason we couldn't go outside all week. I showed him the ashes outside and told him we couldn't play outside until they were cleaned up. He wanted to know if he could help clean up the ashes. He did surprisingly well being cooped up inside, probably because he got to watch more t.v. this past week then ever before in his life...

Thank God we are all ok. The Allen household was never really in danger. Of course, when the fires first started in San Diego, I of course thought we would be receiving a reverse 911 call anytime the phone rang. Our car was packed and ready to go all week. I did not sleep the first night of the fires, thinking for sure that the Fallbrook fire was getting closer and closer and the media was not reporting anything about it. Tom on the other hand slept like a log that night! I kept being woken up by the faintest sounds, wondering if it was the police warning us to get out. Thankfully we did not have to go through any of that.

We even had blue skies here until about Tuesday. Then the ash started to fall and the air smelled like a huge bonfire. I wanted to leave to go to my parents house, but Tom kept telling me we were fine. Finally on Friday when I woke up and had cotton mouth, I decided that I couldn't take the air quality any longer. I couldn't breathe in the house, so I evacuated myself and the kids to my parents house and Fati's house (Tom stayed at home, he had to work all week). The roads were clear and I didn't have to worry about being sent on a detour...Unfortunately, we seemed to have brought the air quality with us. Ash fell in Perris on Friday too. But at least we could breathe inside the house!

It is now late Saturday, light rain fell today. The sky is no longer the brown orange color that it was, nor is it thick with ash/particles and it does not smell like a bonfire any longer. The firefighters continue to make progress on the fires here. I pray that they are able to rest soon. I pray for the families that lost their homes and/or loved ones. I am grateful that no one I know was hurt. I can't wait until the skies are blue and the air is clear. I don't think I have ever been so worried before in my life!

Bates Nut Farm 2007

We went to the pumpkin patch again!! We met up with Victor's friends there. They all had tons of fun. Victor rode a horse for the very first time, we got to go on a hayride, and pick pumpkins. Jonas had fun sitting in the pumpkins and on the hayride too.

Happy Happy Victor!

Happy Birthday to my crazy little boy Victor. I can not believe it!! He has turned 3!! Where does the time go, seriously?? We are venturing into exciting new grounds here. I hear that 3 is worse than 2!! Victor had his moments at 2, but this past week going into his 3rd birthday was quite tough. Tantrums, talking back...what is this?? Who is this? And I hear the teenage years are even worse!! Man, what did we get ourselves into??

All in all though, Victor is the sweetest boy around. He tells me, "I love you mommy" and gives me a hug and a kiss. He loves his brother to pieces and tries his best to share with him. He loves to run around and have fun. He and Jonas are a handful!! Now that Jonas can crawl, he chases Victor around the house! It is quite a site. I'm a little afraid of what the future has to hold! Thankfully there aren't too many breakable things out! Tom thinks he is ready to get Victor started in some sports. Of course my reply was to ask Tom if he is ready to coach the team. Haven't heard an answer back quite yet. In the meantime, Victor continues to progress quite nicely in swim classes.

Victor had a great time with his friends at his birthday party...If anyone has any pictures please send them to me!!

Happy 3rd birthday my Victor!! We love you!!
