You Know You're Old When...
You know you're old when you start talking about washers. I have been on the hunt for a new washer for some time now. When Tom and I first moved into our home, we were lucky enough to have a washer and dryer included with the purchase of the home. So this is the first time I have had to buy a washing machine. My dryer still works, so I'm not going to replace it. Why pollute the earth more? Plus it doesn't really matter to me if the machines match, as long as they do their job and last me a long time!! Who really comes over to check out your washer and dryer anyways??!!
So, we went to Fry's and looked at the LGs. Those are beautiful washers and dryers! They look so gorgeous!! But I am not usually a person to buy on a whim. Especially on a piece of equipment that cost over $1000! So I came home and began my research on reviews of the latest washers. That's when I got scared! I read so many horrible things about the front loader machines. Things about mold/mildew, machines not working after 3-4 months, machines taking hours to wash one load, etc... The more I read the worse it got, especially about the LGs and the Whirpools. So I sadly put my hopes of getting a beautiful machine to rest and decide to be practical (as I usually am).
I e-mailed those of you that I thought may have recently purchased a new washer to see what brands you had and how you were liking them. To my surprise a good majority of you had already made the jump from a top loader to a front loading machine. (If you don't know what I am talking about then you are too young!) I felt like I was the only one left that had not made the move to an HE machine. SO you guys gave me the courage to make the leap!! Out with the old in with the new technology!! Plus you all had great things to say about your front loaders, especially the LGs...
So, what kind of machine did I end up getting? A Bosch 500 Nexxt Series. Basic white, no real beauty to it, but it was in the mid-range on Consumer Reports and had the least complaints about it online. They didn't have it in stock at Lowe's, (but they did have the one that was $100 more b/c it had silver lining on it) so I have to wait about 2 weeks before I actually get the machine. I hope I made a good choice!
Oh and just for the record, the people at Lowe's and Home Depot said that they haven't received many returns or unhappy LG or Whirlpool customers.
