Hockey Hockey Hockey

There are two sports that I told myself my sons would never play, football and hockey.  I don't like the violence and if I think about it, I will add boxing to that mix.  But does boxing really count as a sport? Anyways, I always thought there was too much hitting and pushing, not to mention booty slapping!!!  LOL   Well, first thing I learned about parenting is to "never say never".

So how exactly did Victor start his hockey love affair?  There is a park nearby with a hockey rink and he loved to watch the guys playing there.  Then my friend Patti gave him a hockey stick!  Then of course he found 2 hockey pucks near the hockey rink.  So no I never bought him any hockey paraphernalia, it just came to him!  Then I get a call from my friend Patti about FREE ice hockey classes.  Well I'm not one to pass up a FREE opportunity!  The idea was to have her daughter and Victor signed up in the same lesson.  Unfortunately they were not signed up for the classes.  So for a month I kept asking Victor, "Are you sure you want to play hockey?"  An unwavering "yes" was always the answer.

So at the beginning of March, Victor began ice hockey lessons!  That's right, on the ice.  I hoped at first that he would hate it.  Then I could say I took him and he tried it and I was a good mom for letting him experience it.  Well, I took him and he tried it and he LOVES it.  Loves it more than I ever thought he could.  His face lights up, he laughs, he talks to his coaches and is silly.  After the first lesson he knew how to ice skate better than I ever could!  He is fearless!  He loves it so much that we are considering actually paying for lessons, if he wants to continue in it!

Joann's Retirement Party

Grandma Joann was finally able to retire, after 36 years of long hard work! So in true Allen style we put on some dancing shoes and celebrated the evening away at the Mission Bay Yacht Club. It was the perfect evening, great company, beautiful sights! Here is a sampling of photos:
